This calls for the necessity to prepare the next generation of philanthropists and engaging stakeholders on the changing landscape of the sector. How have we been giving? Constantly on the rise, the African population is in dire demand for basic amenity, chief amongst this being food. Over 100 million Africans are currently facing crisis, emergency, or catastrophic levels of food insecurity and calls for a consensus and a race against time for stakeholders to implement modern way of farming, engaging young and next generation farmers and food processing/preservation methods.

Effective Governance in Africa must work to ensure an increase and improvement in philanthropic investing. A new set of political sensitivities and enabling forms of governance is urgently required for philanthropy to thrive across the continent.

If we are to catch up to the rest of the world in the race for the 4th Industrial Revolution, Africa must improve its curriculum, teacher-student knowledge transfer method and provision of basic infrastructure for both teachers and students to excel.

Access to quality and affordable healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa has eluded millions of Africans for years and new emerging diseases are really putting the strain on an already weak system. With many African countries spending less than 10% of their GDP on healthcare, this is a cause for concern.

Strategic Philanthropy
It’s a complex world in Africa just like everywhere else; with 54 countries in need of respective and different attention, strategic giving to mitigate the plight of the most vulnerable are required more than ever. What institutions are in place to harvest and share best practices, transfer knowledge, and both expand and enhance the strategic nature of philanthropy in Africa? Are there opportunities for shared learning and partnership that have yet to be seized?

With recent global calls for systemic change in all sectors being championed by the youths, it is highly likely that solutions to lifelong problems will be found in the youth. Empowering and uplifting women and the girl-child will go a long way in influencing societal change, promote peace, innovation, education and improve the economic value of the African women. The inequality in women having access to roles and opportunities is quite staggering, especially in most part of Africa where tradition and norms still holds sway.
